Why we should NOT have a pause on AI
I point to this counterintuitive take in Thursday's post. Here's the detail.
In my last post Say it isn’t so: Human Eugenics I mention that the bro world that’s driving pro-natalism is also driving the AI movement. As well as the movement to put a six-month moratorium on "training AI systems more powerful than GPT-4”. The letter, signed by thousands of tech bros, was initiated by none other than longtermist organization The Future of Life Institute, which has a board stacked with…rich tech bros, including Elon.
Anyway, I’m betting some of you might be keen to learn/read more. Because it does seem very counterintuitive that the tech dudes making and investing in the development of AI would then argue for a pause on said development. And then it would seem counterintuitive, too, that the ethicists working in AI would want to counter the pause argument.
But a counter counters a counter, right?
