Another post about Hashimoto's disease (#2)
What I do, eat, the supplements I take to manage my disease...
So last week I ran a Part #1 in this double act, A post about Hashimoto's disease #1, in which I shared the basics, plus a bunch of wisdoms that I think are required for navigating a life with the disease. By way of summary:
It’s a very confusing disease and no one knows where it comes from, how to fix it nor how the drugs work etc., and so you might as well just cut straight to where all the possible paths head anyway and that is to the art of taking care of your health like a warrior.
Thank you to everyone who shared specialists, tips, links etc in the comments thread.
Today I’m sharing what I do to live with the damn thing - how I, indeed, take care of my health like a warrior.
I’ll say it again - I am not a medical specialist so please take the below as an insight into what I do, coupled with my layperson’s opinions as to why they might work for you1. Flick back to the Part #1 for further caveats to this. With this post, I suggest you take my insights and whack them into Google to get data on whatever it is that I raise (eg “Does eating green vegetables help Hashimoto’s”) and/or put them to your medical specialist.
And I should warn you: what follows is not a virtuous list of Goop-like perfect behaviours. Nope, some of the tips are simply geared at surviving or “getting through the night”.
That said, I have invited my Hashimoto’s specialist to chime in
Dr Leah Hechtman is a researcher and naturopath specialising in hormonal issues and she wrote the “bible” that naturopathic students study from. I asked Leah to give a topline overview of supplements that are best suited to the condition. She will also join in the comments thread and answer questions where she can.
