The real results of what's happening right now with the Matildas will only be truly evident when all the young boys watching, cheering and wearing Mattildas jerseys become adults.

And equally the young girls too.

It is visibly happening, and that's what brings a tear to my eye watching it.

Next up is finally having a woman coach a men's sporting team.🙏

Love your posts Sarah, stinky or not😊

Smells like "keen" spirit?

Thanks so much Anna, that's great. Not the predictable men's brigade, but her strength of character definitely is.

I hope Katie has some support there from better men.

Will look her up.

Kia ora Sarah, as a kiwi in Aoteaora I've noticed a huge upswing in enthusiasm for women's sport here too. It really started to be obvious here last year during the Women's Rugby World Cup. My take is that the All Blacks (or insert any other dominant male team here) is such a slick, profitable and commercial enterprise that it has lost it's heart. But with the women's teams there is still so much rawness, so much passion on show. It's a joy to watch.

That's a super good point. Women's sport does feel untouched. I write this, however, as Peter Dutton (Aust opposition leader on the right) came out in opposition to then PM's (in good faith) call for a public holiday if the M's win the Cup and...one-up-manned by saying he will call for more $$ to upgrade women's sporting facilities. Which turns the whole thing it into a political football. Sigh.

Love the Honesty. We must speak to the wobbly moments x

It is also very cool to hear about the shift in Australia , Go the Matildas! (I'm a kiwi but anything for woman's sport of our sister country seeming as we are not competing against each other x)

I watched the Matilda's game on Saturday with my 5 year old, who has never previously shown any interest in watching sport. She was completely gripped by it and had to look away in parts because she was so nervous/excited. Yesterday she spent time in the backyard doing penalty shootouts with my partner, and she can't wait to watch the next game on Wednesday. It makes me emotional, too, to think of the shift in assumptions that is going on, and to see a new normal for my girl and her generation. The Matildas have just been so incredible to watch, and their cameraderie is heartwarming.

My dad said, "It's so great to see a bunch of people who seem to like each other and be good people".

Yes that's it. There are good vibes coming from the girls, and spreading outwards

“To get perspective on I don’t know what” ...great title for the next book 😂

Pretty much sums up why we explore, no?

It is very exciting. I’m not much of a sports fan - find I don’t like to sit and watch a whole game of anything. My mind wanders... I have tuned into the World Cup a bit though. My sensitive nervous system finds the high-contact, tackling in many other football codes too much. But soccer, I can stay focused on the game, be amazed at the skill and not freak out over bodies slamming into each other so much.

It is so great that the Matildas are capturing people’s attention - I had to eye roll the other day though. A young 20 year old woman I know recounted to me that her friend’s dad had said how amazing it was that he’d been watching a women’s football game for 5 minutes and wasn’t even bored yet. Ughhh - we’ll leave him behind!

The support for the Women’s World Cup and The Matilda’s makes me so emotional! It wells up like it’s triggering collective ptsd. Will there be a proper shift. Or will we all be sent home again...??? And Barbie! Oh my goodness! It’s all been an overwhelming load of FABULOUS-ness for me and I’m too scared to talk about it profoundly/properly in case I ruin it !! It feel precarious.... and I want that shift SO BADLY

Hi Sarah, just a little msg to say Thankyou, your a bloody legend, your books and everything have changed my life- especially in terms of mental illness and anxiety. I loved telling my kids about your take away coffee cup facts and the cuties have come up with this as a local cafe has no option but bloody take away cups. I’d love your opinion on asking this cafe to give a small discount to customers with a keep cup…..

sorry I don’t know how to contact you by other means.

Hey, why not post something (perhaps the video) on FB or IG and tag the cafe and tag a few people like meet chime in. Otherwise, if it's near the kids' school, get the families all to sign something? The kids could get the petition happening?

Thanks for your update, Sar. How did the French react to their team losing to the Matildas?

I read this morning in Andrew Webster's SMH article that he overheard a little boy say to his Dad on Sunday, "I want to be a Matilda when I grow up!" Bloody marvellous.

Let's hope whatever happens from now that this does indeed become a pivot point for change across so many areas: respect, pay, opportunity, and more.

Big love, Sar xx

What I find truly surprising is that people seem to be so shocked and amazed that Women's sport is rating very well with Television audiences. Of course sports fans are watching women's sport, they want to watch any good competition!

I love your honest posts Sarah....keep them coming!

I think young boys see women as just as capable, if not more so, than men. Sadly, their attitudes to girls is unchanged.
