Thank you Sarah. That was a very moving and tender conversation, and a very important one. It also reminded me that not everyone can or needs to confront collapse in the way that I have, and my sometimes all too ready "warrior" needs to just shut up. Thank you for sharing this. 💚

Last year at the Christmas dinner table … a relative and partner (they weren’t present) had just built a 6 bedroom 4 bathroom home . No children and a huge income from the mining industry. I got on my high horse “that’s ridiculous and unnecessary”. A young luncher , no relationship to the house builders jumped to their defence saying that they should be able to build whatever they like. I said well of course they can but it’s wasteful to build and maintain something that you have no need for just because you can and therein lies the problem with humanity and all the problems we are facing. He didn’t get it and I was frowned upon for spoiling the conversation. I Don’t know what you are supposed to do in these situations. Should you just leave people in their ignorant bliss? Sit and smile sweetly Won’t be too long and everyone is going to be aware

I can't smile sweetly nor say nothing. I'm 50 and I feel in enough of a "elder" space to voice up more and more. I keep refining how I do it...adding layers of seductive appeal! Your question could make a good AMA ep on Wild...would you be happy for me to put your name to the question?

But Gaya added that she often finds that this truth brings “a sense of relaxation” to many, especially young people. “I think we are relieved to have to let go of the growth imperative. To be forced to live within limits - there's a peace of mind in that. “ this was my take away from part 2 of chapter 3 and what I'll be percolating on this morning
